Short bio: Irene Wieczorek is a PhD student at the Vrije Universiteit Brussels and at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (joint doctorate). She writes a dissertation titled "The Legitimacy of EU Criminal Law" under the co-supervision of Professor Paul De Hert (VUB) and Anne Weyembergh (ULB). She has been a visiting researcher at the European University Institute, at the University of Trento where she was invited as a guest lecturer, and at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International criminal law. She was also an informal visiting student at the University of Cambridge. In July 2014 she was awarded the Diploma of the Academy of European Law (European University Institute) for excellent examination paper. From October 2011 to March 2012 she interned for six months at the legal service and at the Italian desk at the Eurojust, the Judicial Cooperation Unit of the European Union. She holds a MA in European Interdisciplinary Studies from the College of Europe (2011), an LL.M, major European Law, from Maastricht University (2010) and a LL.M from Trento University (2010). She holds a BA from Trento University (2007) and a BA from Paris 13 University (2007).
