Joint Investigation Teams: Effective Institutions for Cross-border Law Enforcement?

The project aims to research the relationship between joint investigation teams (JITs) and human rights protection through an institutional lens. The main research aims are exploratory (researching the proper conceptualisation of JITs through aforementioned institutional lens) and normative (how that conceptualisation affects the way in which human rights should be considered and protected within JITs). The project will use both doctrinal research methods as well as empirical methods (semi-structured interviews and focus groups/discussion panels; respondents including national police and judicial officers, judges, and officials from EU agencies such as Eurojust and Europol).
