Regulation (EU, Euratom) 2016/2030 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 26 October 2016 amending Regulation (EU, Euratom) No 883/2013, as regards the secretariat of the Supervisory Committee of the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF)
On 4 March 2016, the Commission tabled a proposal for a regulation amending regulation 883/2013, which governs the work of the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), in order to reinforce the independent functioning of OLAF's Supervisory Committee secretariat.
The Court of Auditors issued its opinion on 27 April 2016, welcoming the proposal that the secretariat of the Supervisory Committee should no longer be provided by OLAF.
The Committee on Budgetary Control (rapporteur: Ingeborg Grässle) adopted the report on the proposal on 27 May 2016. The European Parliament adopted its position at first reading on 6 July 2016, proposing some amendments to the proposal.
The Regulation has been finally approved in October 2016 and it provides that the secretariat of OLAF's Supervisory Committee shall be provided directly by the Commission, independently from the OLAF. Without prejudice to its control over the budget of the Supervisory Committee and its secretariat, however, the Commission shall not interfere with the monitoring functions of the Supervisory Committee.
