To make possible the accession of the Principality of Liechtenstein to the Schengen acquis in accordance with Article 16 of the Schengen Agreement of Switzerland and under the terms and conditions set out in this Protocol.

For this purpose it is essential to approximate the rights and obligations applicable to Liechtenstein to those agreed between the Council of the European Union, of the one part, and Iceland and Norway, as well as Switzerland of the other part.
