Commission Decision 1999/352/EC, ECSC, Euratom of 28 April 1999 establishing the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF)
This decision created OLAF in 1999. It defined OLAF’s tasks, responsibilities, structure and mode of operation. It has been amended twice, by the following instruments:
- Commission Decison 2013/478/EU of 27 September 2013, which enabled OLAF to work more efficiently and effectively, particularly with outside organisations;
- Commission Decision (EU) 2015/512 of 25 March 2015, which concerns the adaptations needed to accompany the transfer of the tasks related to the preparation of legislative and regulatory initiatives regarding the protection of the euro against counterfeiting from OLAF to the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs .
This decision is complemented by Regulation (EU, Euratom) No 883/2013, which defines OLAF’s role and remit, and an Interinstitutional Agreement, which specifically concerns investigations in the EU institutions.
