The Needed Balances of EU Criminal Law: Past, Present and Future
For the celebration of its 10th anniversary, the European Criminal Law Academic Network (ECLAN) organised a special conference in Brussels (Conference Centre Albert Borschette) on April 25 and 26, 2016.As the title suggests, “The Needed Balances of EU Criminal Law: Past, Present and Future”, both the historic evolution of EU Criminal Law and its current internal and external balances were analysed. To better tackle these issues, the conference was structured in 4 sessions. Two of those were plenary, whereas the other two were divided into two workshops. The following are the main topics:
- The Quest for a Right Balance between the EU and the MSs and between the EU Institutions (Session 1);
- The Quest for a Right Balance between Diversity and Unity (Session 2);
- EU Integration, from 9/11 to Foreign Fighters: does the EU Strike the Right Balance between Security and Freedom? (Session 3);
- Relationship and Balance between Criminal Justice Actors (Session 4).
