To mark the anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty of Law (FL) of the University of Latvia (UL) the 7th International Scientific Conference of the UL FL will be held on 16-18 October, 2019. The conference “Legal Science: Functions, Significance and Future in Legal Systems" will take place in Riga and organizers intend to bring together legal representatives from Latvia and UL partner institutions around the world.

The international scientific conference is dedicated to the centennial anniversary of the FL, therefore it will not only to mark a jubilee of the cradle for Latvian legal science and studies, but also acknowledge its significant contribution to the foundation, evolution and renewal of Latvian legal system. Recognized legal experts and professionals from Latvia and abroad are invited to prepare reports that look back at our achievements and share the newest discoveries in jurisprudence.

The Dean of the UL FL Anita Rodiņa indicates: “The academic staff of the Faculty of Law has been one of the cornerstones of the foundation and evolution of the Latvian legal system. The creation and development of basic national legal acts, also their involvement into the renewal of Latvia’s independency is a sort of their legacy. However, this scientific conference will outline a new vector for the faculty’s development, international recognition and scientific capacity not only in context of Latvia, but also in Europe and worldwide.”

All interested are invited to submit their abstracts for participation by 24 March, 2019 to take part in the conference with an oral or poster presentation that outlines the challenges of past, nowadays or future, lawyers’ contribution to the more modern and better functioning of legal system, and the role of legal science in the economy, international relations and national security.

Listener registration will begin on 1 September, 2019.
